Football Coaching recognizes the importance of a Healthy Lifestyle in the Community
Star Football Academy is supportive of healthy living in the wider community. As a Football Club we understand in this busy day and age, it can be difficult to maintain a healthy balance of diet, exercise and wellbeing. While sports play a big role in the development and health of children there are also other elements that align in order for a healthy lifestyle.
Background and Goal of the Dubai Fitness Challenge
In 2017 Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council) launched the first Dubai Fitness Challenge. With the rise of health issues such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure to name a few, this initiative was launched to create a focus on the improvement of the community’s health and to promote physical activity.
From the 18th of October to the 16th of November Dubai becomes one of the most active cities in the world. This amazing event challenges every person to undertake at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day for 30 days. Many events and health centered activities are available for its residents including healthy eating promotions, wellness-focused entertainment as well as numerous physical activities. Dubai has become a hub of cultivating a fitness-focused community where everyone shares the same goal to live and maintain a more active and healthier lifestyle.
Star Football Academy Supports the Health of the Wider Community – 7 Healthy Habits
To be the best Football Academy we strongly believe in supporting not only our members but the wider community. While the Dubai Fitness Challenges inspires thousands, our goal at Star Football Academy is to support the younger generation as children are still developing habits that lead to a healthy lifestyle. We have developed our own program to promote the 7 Healthy Habits that lead to a balanced lifestyle.
Committed to the 7 Healthy Habits
Over the next 7 weeks the Star Football Academy will launch our 7 Healthy Habits. Each week our football coaching will incorporate 1 habit in the football training. There will also be fun facts, games, posts and challenges that gets the community involved in participating in a healthier lifestyle. Players and their families will be encouraged to share their challenges on social media and to celebrate trying each challenge and following a healthy habit.
What are 7 Healthy Habits?
Star Football Academy has incredible coaches and staff on the team. With experienced U.K trained coaches and our head coach and part time coaches having a Bachelor of Physical Education the Football Club offers expert knowledge on the developmental stages of children. The 7 Healthy Habits are a collaboration of many years of experience of working with children of all ages and abilities. Each habit is as important as the next and together form a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle. Here is some information on each individual habit:
Healthy Habit 1: Drinking Water
A simple habit that has many health benefits. Water or H20 occupies 70% of the earth’s surface and makes up to at least 60% of the human body. No animal or plant can live without this precious resource. Water plays a fundamental role in hydrating the body and keeping vital organs in the body functioning. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water is recommended, however if participating in physical activity such as football training or in hotter weather more water is needed to stay hydrated.
Healthy Habit 2: Healthy Food
With the huge variety of food available it can be tricky choosing the most nutritious and healthy food. Obesity can arise if too much processed and fatty foods are consumed leading to further health problems. The human body needs each food group to give your body minerals, vitamins, fiber, fats and protein to stay healthy. Choosing foods that are wholegrain, organic, and of different colours will help support the body intaking the nutrients it needs. Highly processed foods, sugary and fatty foods should be limited. Snacks such as fruit and vegetables also provide hydration as they contain water.
Healthy Habit 3: Exercise/Sports
Physical activities that raise the heart rate are a great way to keep trim, build muscle and burn off calories. When a player joins a Football Team they are often tired after the session. As the days and weeks progress the fitness level increases. With all activity the beginning of exercise can be difficult, however the more consistent the more the body gains strength and longevity. Physical activity has many advantages as it helps create new brain cells that improve memory and releases endorphins that improves mood.
Healthy Habit 4: Sleeping
Sleeping may seem unimportant, however while in REM sleep the body is repairing and working hard to keep our body’s immune system strong to fight off infection. Adults should be getting 7-8 hours of sleep each night. While children need 10-12 hours of sleep. Having a consistent routine of bedtime and waking up helps the body to automise a pattern.
Healthy Habit 5: Hygiene
The human body does an incredible job of fighting off germs and bacteria, however hygiene plays a big part in staying healthy. Washing hands before eating and after using the bathroom can stop you getting sick. Covering your mouth when sneezing, coughing and yawning can stop viruses from spreading. Showering daily, brushing teeth and keeping clean gives you body the help it needs in fighting off germs and staying healthy.
Healthy Habit 6: Social Life
Wellness in people included a balanced school/work and social life. As humans we enjoy interactions and cohabitate with others at different stages of our lives. Children as well as adults need to have time to enjoy things that interest them. Social activities can include sports, physical activities such as bike riding or creative projects. Also watching a movie of having time at each others homes. Social situations builds on emotional intelligence in being able to read the emotions of others and building confidence in formal and informal experiences. Children learn about friendships and how to build trustful relationships.
Healthy Habit 7: Positive Wellbeing
A healthy body needs a healthy mind as studies have shown that by having 2-3 minutes a day of relaxation can reduce anxiety by 80%. Positive thinking gives people the tools to cope and thrive in various situations. Positive wellness also includes setting achievable goals to stay motivated and to keep working through things. Positive wellbeing builds resilience and promotes healthy ways to express emotions and can reduce stress and anxiety.
